The History of Dior
Dior entered the world of fashion in 1941 when he put his artistic skills to the test as a freelance designer selling his drawings to couture labels. Passing in front of 30, Avenue Montaigne, Christian Dior knew that this little townhouse would be home to his couture label, as soon as he saw it he had to have it. A visionary couturier he started his design house in 1946, but it was his spring collection the following year that launched his career, with its tight waists and full skirts he enhanced the female form and helped turn the page on the shapeless fashions that were worn during the war. His new look became extremely popular and Dior gained a number of prominent high-profile clients from Hollywood and the European aristocracy. Today you are more likely to see Sharon Stone or Catherine Zeta Jones wearing Dior.
